Some titles have not had FPS Boost automatically enabled by default, as it requires a reduction in the game’s resolution in order to run smoothly. In some instances, titles can even run up to 120 frames per second! Check the list below to see what’s compatible. Higher framerates mean buttery-smooth gameplay!įallout 4 – shown in the video above – effectively has its framerate doubled from 30 frames per second to 60 frames per second thanks to FPS Boost. What is FPS Boost?įPS Boost takes advantage of the raw power available on the next-generation consoles to almost double the original framerate on select titles. So much so that the console can make older games look even better with the addition of more frames.

Also after seeing the hair in Alice: Madness Returns years before TressFX was a thing I have to say I don't really view the tech as a huge deal.Your Xbox Series X or S console is absolutely stacked with power. At the end I think it falls down to AMD: if they'd support their tech and pay money to SE / CD to make the improvements I'm sure they did it but seems like that's not the case.

What kind of a GPU you have? I have Nvidia (GTX 970) and the performance hit is not that huge, I lose about 20 fps if I have TressFX enabled though the game is not maxed out fully (I use FXAA instead of SSAA and only normal Depth of Field) but I'm still getting around 80 fps during gameplay.Īnyway during gameplay TressFX is nice, I admit that, I just don't like how it looks during cutscenes and to me the default hair seems more of a classic "Lara look." Guess I just like it better.Īs for TressFX 2.0 after looking at the Definitive Edition it does seem a bit nicer and hey, it's able to run on a PS4 so it has to be a lot better optimized.

If v2.0 fixes that then they should patch it in. The only problem I have with it is the performance hit, my settings are Ultra and my average FPS drops from 75 to about 40. The default setting makes the hair look like a dirty mass, with TressFX enabled the hair is silky smooth with every individual hair flowing in the wind. Originally posted by Zaxx:Well who cares, TressFX looks quite bad anyway. The PS4 and Xbox One community were probably happy to pay $60 for the "Definitive Edition" but PC users won't pay anywhere near that for slightly better textures. Most of us have already bought the game by now, and probably wouldn't be willing to pay much for a slightly better looking version. However I don't think it's likely that they would spend any additional effort on a 2-year old title when they're looking forward to the next Tomb Raider game. While it doesn't seem likely that Crystal Dynamics or Square Enix will bother putting out another version of Tomb Raider just to include TressFX 2.0 or any of the other "improvements" of the Definitive Edition, you're welcome to contact them with your thoughts.

So, do we know if the PC version will be getting TressFX 2.0? Has anyone e-mailed Crystal Dynamics about this and gotten a response? I won't hold my breath for all the other updates, but it seems silly to not issue an update for something already in the game that will make it run better. it makes a feature that's already in the game look and run much better.

It reduces the frame rate hit and the number of bugs associated with using it. TressFX 2.0 is simply an update to a feature we already have in the PC version though. They want to hit sales numbers and all that probably, which is understandable enough.
